DL α-Tocopherol is the main source found in supplements and in the European diet. It has vitamin E activity. α-Tocopherol is the form of vitamin E that is preferentially absorbed and accumulated in humans. Its IUPAC name is 2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-2-(4,8,12-trimethyltridecyl)-3,4-dihydrochromen-6-ol. It is used in dietary supplements. DL-alpha-Tocopherol is used as an antioxidant to increase the stability of fats.

DEFINITION
Vitamin E is a form of alpha tocopherol (C29H50O2). It includes the following: d- or dl-alpha tocopherol (C29H50O2); d- or dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate (C31H52O3); d- or dl-alpha tocopheryl acid succinate (C33H54O5). It contains NLT 96.0% and NMT 102.0% of C29H50O2, C31H52O3, or C33H54O5, respectively.
