Sodium Hypochlorite Solution Manufacturers

Synonyms: Sodium Hypochlorite Solution or Soda Bleach or Hypo or Solution and Sodium Hypochlorite Pentahydrate
CAS Number: 7681-52-9 anhydrous and 7681-52-8 pentahydrate, Molecular Weight: 74.44, Chemical Formula: NaOCl (anhydrous), EINECS EC Number: 231-668-3, FEMA: ----,

Sodium hypochlorite is a chemical compound with the formula NaOCl. Anhydrous sodium hypochlorite can be prepared; however, it is highly unstable and decomposes explosively on heating or friction. Sodium hypochlorite can also be obtained as a crystalline pentahydrate NaOCl-5H2O, which is not explosive and is much more stable than the anhydrous compound. The formula is sometimes given as 2NaOCl-10H2O. The transparent light greenish yellow orthorhombic crystals contain 44% NaOCl by weight and melt at 25C to 27C. The compound decomposes rapidly at room temperature, so it must be kept under refrigeration. At lower temperatures, however, it is quite stable.

At typical ambient temperatures, sodium hypochlorite is more stable in dilute solutions that contain solvated Na+ and OCl− ions. The density of the solution is 1.093 g/mL at 5% concentration, and 1.21 g/mL at 14%, 20C. Solutions are commercial forms of sodium hypochlorite. Sodium hypochlorite solution is a liquid with an odor of chlorine. Usually it is clear but some solutions are greenish to yellow in color. Sodium hypochlorite is also known as soda bleach or chlorine bleach. It is an excellent sterilizer, oxidizer and discoloring agent, and also acts as a germicide, fungicide and deodorant.

General Specifications of Sodium Hypochlorite Solution:
Available chlorine: Minimum 12.00% weight. Other Dilutions can be offered.
Specific gravity at 25C: Minimum 1.170
Total alkali as NaOH: Maximum 1.50% weight
Appearance: Colorless to Yellowish liquid
Odor: Chlorine like Odor
Boiling point: Decomposes.
Fusion point:-25C (Sol. at 12% NaOCl)
Solubility in water: It is 100% soluble in water
pH: >9

Sodium Hypochlorite Solution USP Grade
NaClO --- 74.44 --- [CAS 7681-52-9].
Hypochlorous acid, sodium salt.

Sodium Hypochlorite Solution contains not less than 4.0 percent and not more than 6.0 percent, by weight, of NaClO.
Caution: This Solution is not suitable for application to wounds.

Packaging and storage: Preserve in tight, light-resistant containers, at a temperature not exceeding 25C.

Identification:
A: The Solution at first colors red litmus blue and then bleaches it.
B: The addition of 3 N hydrochloric acid to the Solution causes an evolution of chlorine.
C: The solution obtained in Identification test B responds to the flame test for Sodium.
Assay: Weigh accurately, in a glass-stoppered flask, about 3 mL of Solution, and dilute it with 50 mL of water. Add 2 g of potassium iodide and 10 mL of 6 N acetic acid, and titrate the liberated iodine with 0.1 N sodium thiosulfate, adding 3 mL of starch as the endpoint is approached. Perform a blank determination, and make any necessary correction. Each mL of 0.1 N sodium thiosulfate is equivalent to 3.722 mg of NaClO.

Strong Sodium Hypochlorite Solution BP Ph Eur Grade Specifications:

DEFINITION
Strong Sodium Hypochlorite Solution is an aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite containing not less than 8% of available chlorine. It may contain suitable stabilising agents.

Content of available chlorine, Cl: Not less than 8.0% w/w.

Total alkalinity: Not more than 1.8% w/w, calculated as NaOH, when determined by the following method. To 25 mL add 50 mL of water and 35 mL of hydrogen peroxide solution (20 vol) and titrate with 0.5M hydrochloric acid using methyl orange solution as indicator. Each mL of 0.5M hydrochloric acid is equivalent to 20 mg of NaOH. Determine the weight per mL of the solution and calculate the total alkalinity as a percentage weight in weight.
